UPDATE:

The Oakland Roots confirmed that Lindo Mfeka will be back for 2022.

The blog has learned that the Oakland Roots have finalized a contract extension with Lindo Mfeka for the 2022 season, according to multiple sources.

An official announcement from the club is considered to be imminent and will occur at some point this week, per sources.

He emerged as a versatile member of Jordan Ferrell's system last season, lining up as a midfield, central attacker, and striker on two occasions before suffering an injury right before the playoffs.

Mfeka bagged a brace in Roots' 3-1 victory over Tacoma Defiance on Wednesday, September 15--the organization's only 2-goal performance of the season

Mfeka, 27, was among the Roots' early signatures for the 2021 USL Championship season back in January. He is a native of South Africa and will count as one of nine international slots on Oakland's roster.

In 2021, Mfeka appeared in 23 and made 15 starts to total 1,341 minutes, recording two goals, four assists, and finished the season with a 6.94 FotMob rating.
