Live Blog: Oakland Roots vs. San Diego Loyal (October 24)

Welcome to Sunday's edition of the blog's live coverage of Oakland Roots on the road against San Diego Loyal.

Scroll down for all the latest updates.

Roots head into San Diego's Torero Stadium holding sixth place with a 9-8-13 record after its disappointing 0-0 draw with Tacoma.

Defiance defeated LA Galaxy II 3-2!!

Everything hinges on a win tonight for Oakland in order to move back into fifth and one point shy of LA Galaxy.

Provided is Bloom's official match preview, where he points out that Los Dos' results determine Oakland's destiny while highlighting Roots' last match against Loyal on September 22, which was a 2-1 win for the Town.

Galaxy II clinch with two points, so a win ends the Roots’ playoff hopes. A Galaxy II draw today and a draw in their final match (home to OCSC) would also secure them fourth place (they hold the tiebreakers on the Roots). I will, for once, be rooting for a Tacoma win. If Roots and Tacoma both win out, and Galaxy II utterly collapse, Oakland hold the tiebreakers over Tacoma and would take fourth.

Roots Starting 11

Reaction:

Jose Hernandez in the lineup is a bit of a surprise after his recent red, meaning the USL did not deem his foul as violent conduct--which would've carried a three-match suspension. Everyone knows how much I enjoy the pairing of Matias Fissore, Wal Fall, and Hernandez in the midfield.

This is a big match for Quincy Amarikwa. He's a leader up top; tonight is the perfect time for him to shine.

Loyal Starting 11

First Half notes:

San Diego dominated the opening 25 minutes as Oakland slowly established some fluidity. The own goal by Callum Montgomery keeps the Roots' playoff hopes alive. A lot of corners, including four in between the 27th and 31st minutes, you'd like to see more production generated from them.

Oakland goes into the half with 49 percent possession, six shots with one on target, five chances created, and six corners generated.

San Diego has four shots, all of which were on target, four chances created, and two big opportunities.
